The year is 2028 and cable television no longer exists. The sway of R/WallStreetBets is now taught in the history textbooks at Wharton and web 2.0 feels like Craigslist. Web 3.0 and the metaverse is finally here. My question now is - what the f&*K do resumes look like? Do resumes still even exist?
In my opinion - yes, there will always be a medium in which skills and experience must be displayed and validated in order to be considered for work opportunities. The medium in which that’s provided to employers, however, is the reason I’m writing this article today.
When I think about web 3.0 and the metaverse, I begin to imagine the endless labor opportunities that will be created:
Software engineers - obviously.
Play-to-earn every-day joes.
Tour managers who book “meta-tours” for their artists across Roblox, Fortnite, and Facebook.
Race announcers on Zed Run.
Casino black jack dealers on Decentraland.
Personal trainers for ClassPass’s first wearable AR tech.
I could go on and on. However, on the road to staffing those labor opportunities, I think about what the workforce will need to do in order to be adequately prepared. My mind immediately focuses on the resume. Here are some thoughts:
Like the metaverse, resumes will need immersive experiences. Long gone will be the days of PDF resumes.
Resumes will need to be interoperable.
If work continues to be remote and it’s acceptable to go to work as your avatar, employers will need an efficient way of verifying hard and soft skills pre-hire.
Imagine a hiring experience in which you can show a potential employer your work experience and skills instead of telling them about it. Sure - you could call this idea an “augmented resume”. However, I think we could go much deeper and personal than that. The idea of a “meta-resume” could create efficiency within the hiring process like we’ve never seen before.
The metaverse will be the next frontier of human interaction, work, and hiring, over the years to come. It’ll propose new alternatives for relationships between customers and brands, opening a door to labor opportunities that call for unique skill sets. Therefore, one day, it’ll change an employers interaction with a job candidate and their resume - and in my opinion - for the better.
Hey there! With whom we can discuss collaboration opportunities?
